Visitors!

Welp. Tax season is over so I decided there was some catching up to do on this old thing... It was so long ago this will probably be just some word vomit followed by tons of pictures of all the fun things that we did...

We were lucky enough to have some visitors in the middle of February! My parents came to Charleston to hang out with Brayden and I for the week. The week was jam packed with so many adventures and tons of tasty food. We were able to cross a few more things of Maxine's list of "Charleston To do's"!

They flew in on February 13th, so we were able to have a double date for Valentine's Day! We went to Lewis Barbecue, which was phenomenal. Then we ended the night at a comedy show at a tiny little theatre downtown.

The next day we went to Pitt Street Bridge while Brayden was busy studying. Davie Crocket of course made some random friends with people walking on the bridge and even with some people that were riding around on a boat ha!

While they were here I felt like we did so much! We went to Boone Hall Plantation, Angel Oak Tree, saw Jumanji (hilarious movie), took a day trip down to Beaufort and Hunting Island State Park, went to a show at the 34 West Theatre, went shopping downtown, went to amazing new restaurants, and of course hit up a few of our staple restaurants. We also went to Jeni's Splendid ice cream twice (not sure how many times davie and maximus went because i know they snuck it a couple times while i was at work...) because it is just that good.

It was so nice to have family come to town, we love exploring our city with visitors. Their trips always seem to go by so fast. But we can't wait for our next visitors to come in just a couple of weeks!! Get ready Maximus and Logey :)

Maximus came to town!

My mom came to visit us a couple of weeks ago! I love living in Charleston, but I do miss my family, so it was so fun having her here for a week. We picked her up from the airport late at night and we didn't stop talking the rest of the night. Poor Brayden was probably lost the whole ride home because we were jumping from topic to topic and talking really fast.

I still had to work while she was here, but we went on yummy lunch dates to Five Loaves. She filled the rest of her time with shopping, taking our car in (yay for a working air conditioner!!), and cleaning/decorating our apartment. She was the best little assistant, we would come home to a perfectly clean apartment with a made bed everyday! During the weekend we decided to take a quick little trip down to Hilton Head. It was a fun little mini vacation. We went to this yummy breakfast place on a golf course called "Links". It was so good! After that we walked around the beach, went to the lighthouse, and went shopping.

Once we got back to Charleston, I had to go back to work...boo. But we were still able to go to lunch together!

On Tuesday, we spent most of the time going to the little shops on King Street. We ate at this cute little restaurant for lunch called Husk. The restaurant was in a cute little white house. We were able to sit outside on the balcony. My mom read about their world famous hamburgers, so of course we ordered one of those. She also heard their cornbread was really good, and since she is a sucker for cornbread we had to order one of those to split too! The presentation of their food was amazing! I loved the whole experience. We had reservations that night to go to The Westendorf. Brayden and I have heard such great things about it, so we were excited to try it! Unfortunately, Hurricane Matthew wrecked those plans. Since the Mayor declared an evacuation to take place the following day, all the restaurants shut down, to prepare and board up the windows. We were so bummed! Hopefully Brayden and I will make it there soon! Instead of going there for dinner, we decided to go to this little restaurant close to our apartment called Crust.

After dinner, like the rest of Charleston, we spent the rest of the night sitting at gas stations in LONG lines waiting to get gas to prepare for the hurricane. We went to the grocery store looking for bottled water and the grocery stores were all sold out! It was crazy. That night we were not able to get gas or water! My mom's flight left early the next morning, so we decided we would get gas then and go to the grocery store right when it opened, on our way back from dropping her off. We were able to get everything we needed! And luckily, my mom's flight plans were still good to go and they weren't affected by the incoming storm. Although I would have been perfectly fine if her flight was cancelled and we had to spend a few extra days with her here.

We can't wait to have more visitors!!

California

Before we headed out to South Carolina for dental school, we stayed at my parents house in California for about a month. It was so fun! Basically our days consisted of hanging out with my mom, which is one of my favorite pastimes. We were constantly running errands with her going anywhere and everywhere, let me tell you she is one busy woman. Then once my dad would come home from work and Logan would come home from school and sports we would always do something fun. We went to the movies, we went out to dinner or dessert, or we would just make dinner, but no matter what it was always a good time. A couple of highlights from the month long vacation with my parents and Logan were going to Disneyland, my birthday, hanging out with Ryan and Lindsay and their kids, going to plays, sending cute little Logey off to Prom, went on a Newport Home Tour and going to Rodeo Drive. We also were able to go with my dad to the Staples Center to see if there were better seats that we could change ours to. While doing that we were able to shoot around on the floor at the Staples Center. It was so fun to be able to do that with my dad and Brayden! My mom didn't shoot, she takes her role as the cheerleader/photographer very seriously for our family. :)

Brayden and I also had some friends from Utah come to my parents beach house in Newport for the weekend! It was a good time playing tennis, going to the beach, eating, and shopping. We have the best friends and I am so glad we had the chance to see them again before we left.

My family is really close, so spending this month in California was basically like Brayden and I were hanging out with my best friends 24/7, it was great. We are so grateful for all my parents did for us that month and how they helped us prepare for the long trek to South Carolina.
